Interior Design Advice: Choosing Wall Décor for Your Home

There are so many ideas how to decorate your home’s walls; you might not have enough walls to accommodate them! Filling your walls does not always mean settling for all framed prints. We will provide you with examples how to liven up those bare walls with everyday objects probably lying around the house.

Talls walls with great width might be a challenge to fill.  However, area rugs can be put to good (and beautiful) use in this situation. Mount rugs and even quilts on these imposing large spaces to act as focal points for the entire room.

You can also implement mirrors to add drama to the room, especially above fireplaces or in rooms with high ceilings. Mirrors also add space albeit illusionary. You can even trim mirrors by mounting them on plywood. Trims, of course, should be in keeping with your home’s unifying theme, such as seashells for Coastal Style or apple motifs for Southern Style.

Apart from quilts, other fabrics can be used as wall décor as well. Mount them to foam panels as framed or frameless works of down home art. The same can be done with wallpaper panels, using molding to give it an art gallery look.

Make sure to group sets of items and you will be filling up those walls with objects of great interest in no time. Other ideas for wall art include antique maps and botanical prints that you can probably find in used bookstores. Furthermore, you can chop up pages of a book itself and frame into sets of eight or twelve and produce a poetic linear pattern on the wall. A collection of smaller mirrors, especially with varying styles, can also be grouped similarly for dramatic effect.

Hickory Furniture Mart features artwork, frames, and mirrors needed to execute our suggestions above.  Do you feel your home’s walls are indeed empty canvases waiting for you to fill?
