You can update your whole bathroom without having to suffer major cosmetic surgery. After years of use, bathrooms can start to look tarnished and grimy, but sprucing it up can simply be a weekend project by following our plan below. What’s more, it won’t cost as much as a remodeling project.
This first phase won’t cost a cent but will do a lot in reviving your bathroom. Take out everything from your bathroom, including old prescriptions in the medicine cabinet, supplies of shampoo and soap on top of the toilet, and cleaning supplies under the sink. Now separate them into two piles, “Keep” and “Toss.” As life crawls by, we tend to accumulate A LOT of stuff we can live without—bottle of expired Tylenol’s, anybody?
Once you are left with—we suspect—will be a smaller pile, you can implement a new organization system using clear plastic trays and boxes, bins, and clear cosmetic bags. Reserve free surfaces for things you actually need to reach like soap. The rest can be tucked away with a new order out of sight. This will keep your bathroom clutter-free with regular maintenance from now on.
You can even get creative and use decorative storage to accentuate your current decorating scheme.
Next, add simple accessories like towel bars to keep your household from leaving used towels everywhere. In fact, each member of your family can benefit from their own towel bar if space permits.
You can then add convenient decorative hooks for hanging robes and clothes on. These can be installed near the shower, behind the bathroom door, or near the sink. These will again keep your bathroom floor clutter-free.
Last but not least, you can add an area rug to your bathroom floor to add a splash of color into the whole room. Again, tiles invite clutter but your beautiful new rug might discourage haphazard towels and clothing.
All the items mentioned above to help reenergize your bathroom are available at Hickory Furniture Mart’s on-site manufacturers. Meanwhile, we are curious to know—what items were in your bathroom’s “Toss” pile?
