Transitioning Trends from Fall to Winter Holidays

Rooms will shimmer and shine more this fall with the continued use of metallic finishes.  This trend keeps gaining steam as we can’t seem to get enough of it.  Every room of the house can benefit from adding a little metallic, without turning it into Liberace’s palace.

The new metallics are found in unique materials. With shades of gray continuing to be very popular, we need a way to add excitement to a color that can seem overcast.  A gunmetal silver or a blackened silver has a dark glow with an air of mystery to it.  Cork wallcovering painted with this darkened metallic finish brings out several tones in a multi-layered finish.  The cork absorbs the paint in various degrees, resulting in spots that appear nearly black.  This eco-friendly material softens the overall appearance of a room and works well with a variety of styles.

Though not a metal, the use of shells for their iridescent shimmer is another popular way to add shine to a room.  Colors can range from pale pink to an inky black and everything in between. Cut into small tile-like pieces, a shell is applied to the bases of lamps, tabletops, and many accessory pieces. We love the way shell acts as a metallic without being such a harsh finish.

The trendy colors of fall such as red, purple, turquoise and other candy-coated hues are being infused with an undertone of metallic.  Painted finishes on wood case goods are adding a metallic undertone that makes you want to take a closer look.  The look is very subtle but effective it gives the color a new depth.

Glass infused with bits of metal has a luminous effect on lighting.  Metal thread spun through a glass shade in warmer shades of gold or bronze gives a room a soft, romantic feel.

The North Carolina Furniture Outlets at Hickory Furniture Mart are not short on the metallic trend.  As you shop for discount living room furniture, you’ll see different ways you use can use metal finishes in a room without necessarily adding the metal.  Our designers are embracing this new trend with zeal as it adds so much more with the right combination of fabrics and finishes.  Stop into today to see how you can use this trend.
