After a long hard winter, we all look forward to spring and the renewal it brings. The same is said for our homes – you start looking around for ways to add new pizazz to an old space. In this time of economic downturn, it is not always feasible to throw everything out and start new, but how do you make the old stuff look good? Not everyone has the luxury of being able to purchase all new pieces of furniture at once.
It all starts with making a plan. Start by taking photos of your existing room and bringing them in along with your room dimensions to the Mart. Many of our showrooms offer design services in-house, or you may contact Designing Women for a more comprehensive assessment of your layout. It always helps to look at things with fresh eyes. Typically, many of your older pieces of furniture can be easily refreshed by a new coat of paint or new hardware. Flattened cushions can have down added or new foam inserted. Even a new lampshade will instantly update an old lamp. Make a list of the things you know you can still use, and then a list of your new must-haves It is also good to think about how you can add pieces over time in order to not break the budget.
Plan a furniture shopping trip to NC to find inspiration for every room in your house. There are 1000’s of manufacturers represented at Hickory Furniture Mart, allowing for your creative juices to flow. You may find that a new metal and glass coffee table is the one piece that pulls your old items altogether. However, you may also see the perfect fabric to recover the outdated sofa, and accompany it with a new pair of wing chairs. Establish a budget, and be sure to think in terms of the big picture. You want the interiors of the house to flow through each room, so add pieces that complement and revive the older items in your home.
