Equestrian Decoration: Chic Trend Alert

You do not have to be a riding or horse racing enthusiast to enjoy the beautiful elements of one of today’s hottest design trends – equestrian style.  Introducing this chic design into your decorating plans does not have to make your home have to look like a tack room.  Through the use of wonderful textures and warm colors, this relaxed yet sophisticated style is easy to achieve.

Leather

Leather is a staple in any tack room: think worn leather saddles and reins or the shiny leather of riding boots.  Introduce this element into your design plans through the use of leather sofas and chairs in rich mahogany brown or elegant black. Leather accessories like books, frames, boxes, even a distressed leather footstool will also achieve the same feel.

Fabrics

Take a cue from the blankets and clothing found in the stables. Add a touch of plaid, suede, black velvet and wool to accent pillows, ottomans, throws, lampshades and rugs. View fabric options.

Metal

Silver, brass, copper, and iron are all metals found in equestrian design.  Use these metals for items such as fireplace screens, lighting fixtures, accessories and as stud or nailhead trim on upholstered or decorative items.

Accessories and artwork

While an equestrian-themed room may use all or some of the elements mentioned above, one item is a must – artwork that depicts horses, riders, hunting scenes, and another other horse-related art.  Other decorative items might include bookends in the shape of a horse, boot, or stirrup, plaid picture frames that showcase a family member’s prized horse, a needlepoint pillow depicting the family ranch, or prized trophies and ribbons, to name a few.

There are many vendors and manufacturers at the Mart that can take care of all your equestrian-themed decorating needs, including fabric, furniture, artwork and other accessories.
