Get Exotic: Using a Bohemian Chic Design Scheme

What do you get when you mix together a little bit of Moroccan design, a touch of India, a hint of Asia and just a wee bit of 60’s hippie?  You get the newest design rage — bohemian chic. You might also see it referred to as boho chic or global glam, but whatever you call it, the style is certainly exotic, colorful and comfortable.

Elements of boho chic design are:

  • Exotic fabrics, including paisley, Ikat, tie-dye, suzani and other handwoven and other prints.
  • Exposed wood or tile floors covered with Persian, dhurrie or kilim rugs. Based on your budget you can choose the “real” thing or find affordable machine woven rugs that work just as well.
  • Hand-blocked prints on a bed coverlet or framed and hung on the wall as artwork.
  • Warm metals such as brass and bronze are used for accessories, lamps, table bases etc.
  • Lanterns are popular light sources. They can either hold candles or be electric and used as hanging pendants in the hallway, bedroom or dining space.
  • Displayed collectibles from world travels. These might be hand carved figurines from Asia, beautiful woven textiles from India or baskets from Morocco.  If you have not yet had the chance to travel the world, visit your local import store and pick up a few “souvenirs.”
  • Colorful tile work plays an important role in bohemian chic design.  If you are not ready to remodel your kitchen or bath, consider a small, tiled table or mirror that has been framed in tile.

Bohemian chic design is a style that is warm and inviting.  Your family and your guests will feel welcome in a home decorated in this global yet friendly manner. Visit our showrooms and find the exotic pieces that you are looking for.
