Following the Fall High Point Market, gray continues it’s run as an interior designer’s favorite warm neutral color of choice. It can be found on the walls of some of the most prestigious shops as a wonderful backdrop to furniture and artwork and just about every fabric manufacturer is offering a collection featuring gray.
Gray is considered by many to be the new “neutral” color and is a fresh alternative to beige and sage green. It can be warm and inviting when paired with colors like yellow and orange; cool and sophisticated with black, red and taupe, dark and moody when combined with rich aubergine or a deep brown and stark and contemporary in a black and white setting.
The reason gray coordinates with so many other colors is because it can have an undertone that ranges from blue and purple to green or brown, depending on the mix. This is also the reason why it can be difficult to choose the perfect gray upholstery fabric for your home. When shopping for the perfect fabric, ask to bring samples home and place them in the area of your room where the upholstered furniture will be placed. Remember to check the color at different times of day and in differing light as it will change. For example, if most of your time spent in the living room is during evening hours it is important to check the color during that time. Conversely, if you are looking for a gray to complement your blue and white kitchen and breakfast room, be sure and check the paint sample during the bright light of morning.
