One of the hottest trends in interior design today is the use of geometrics such as zigzag, chain link and trellis in fabric patterns. Your favorite fabric manufacturers have picked up on this craze and are producing these designs in pretty much any color you may desire. Most often done on a light cream or white background to highlight the design, you can find color combinations of orange, blue, hot pink, gray, green and black. These designs can also be found on wallpaper and rugs.
This is not a shy fabric. It will make a statement in any room in your home. For example, a sleek and sophisticated contemporary living room can be livened up with the addition of a zigzag design rug in front of a black leather sofa. For a real pop of color consider upholstering a club chair in a bright orange chain link pattern to coordinate with your solid pieces. Conversely, a traditional sunroom will benefit from a trellis pattern on the chairs in colors that reflect the garden outside. If you prefer to decorate somewhere in between these two styles, a subtle gray chain link fabric in the form of accent pillows placed on a gray wool sofa will bring your room into the year 2010 immediately.
If subtlety is your goal, use these graphic patterns in accessories such as throw pillows, small upholstered pieces, and artwork. However, if you prefer a bold, in your face look, wallpaper an entire powder room, hang drapery panels or upholster a large piece of furniture in your favorite geometric fabric.
