Trend Watch: Utilizing Turquoise In Your Home

Just take a stroll through Hickory Furniture Mart and you will see many different ways to incorporate the Pantone color of the year, Turquoise, into your home décor.

Why did Pantone and other color marketing experts choose this color?  Perhaps the decision was based on the belief that turquoise creates emotional stability and balance; and who doesn’t need that during these crazy times?  Maybe they felt we all needed a break from the dark days of the recession and world wide political messes and turquoise conjures up visions of tropical beaches and relaxation.  Regardless of the reason, this surprisingly versatile color is here to stay.

Turquoise is a combination of blue and yellow.  This combo provides us with the tranquility of blue and the energy of yellow in one color and it can be combined with so many other colors.

  • Brighten up your earthy neutrals like chocolate brown, khaki and sage green with the addition of turquoise in your fabrics, accessories or paint.
  • Turquoise complements all shades of red and pink for a warm and somewhat unique color combination.
  • Say hello to the seventies again with a modern version of orange and turquoise.  This is a cheerful color combination for a breakfast room or sunroom.
  • Just about any shade of green works well with turquoise.  Bright, yellow based greens like chartreuse, lime, fern and lemon green result in a happy and casual look while moodier greens such as moss, sage and ivy appear a bit more sophisticated.
  • Refresh an all white room with bright pops of turquoise found in pillows, rugs and artwork.

Take a look around and you will begin to notice the presence of turquoise in fabrics, home accessories, lamps, artwork, rugs and paint.  All you have to do is choose which room in your home gets a shot of turquoise first.
