Solutions to Unused Space in Hallways

Throughout a house, there are unused spaces such as pass-throughs or walkways.  A hallway falls into that category as the place that takes you from Point A to Point B.  However, if you can see this space from other areas in the house, then you should consider a few key pieces to add zest to this area.

How do you decorate those empty hallway walls?

Artwork is an obvious choice.  A hallway is a perfect location to put a series of pieces, such as a triptych that fills the space.  Family photos framed in different and interesting frames are also great to display in a hall.  You need to take into consideration the width of the hall as well as the length, as too large or too much art can make it feel small quickly.

Good lighting is also crucial to an unused hallway.  Overhead lighting is always a nice choice, but if you have a wider hall, then consider sconces on one side that can frame the artwork.  This adds visual interest without conflicting with the framed pieces.

A runner on the floor will take the echo out of an unused hallway, and give it some nice color and pattern.  Hall runners are also great to make the pass way less noisy, especially if the floors are a hard surface.
