With an uncapped number of applicable areas, stripes are a multifaceted design tool. To add them into your pre-existing design scheme just keep a few things in mind. If you don’t want the stripe to be the focal point, keep the colors monochromatic or muted. This way the stripe will present a textured facade without calling attention away from other areas. Another aspect to consider is competition. If a room is already pattern-heavy, with florals or other variations, stripes may add confusion instead of creative contrast.
