Let your home interior bloom by incorporating floral design elements! Bold patterns may seem daunting, but with a little restraint and a few guidelines, floral prints can have an effect that’s vivacious, fresh and charming. When creating an interior garden motif, keep in mind a few components: color, balance and elements.<\/p>\n

Color<\/h2>\n

When getting started, it’s important to first determine an overall color scheme that will complement, rather than compete with, floral accents.\u00a0Creamy whites, light neutrals, pale green and light yellow are all examples of colors that act as a balancing backdrop. Creating a unified palette will present floral decor as a highlight, rather than as a bouquet of busy confusion. The second color scheme to consider is floral accents. While mixing design and pattern size is a great way to create depth, it can also be overwhelming. Keep it simple: Stick to two or three colors that highlight one another and are compatible with the overall aesthetic you’re\u00a0looking to create. Bright colors, like chartreuse and coral, are popular.<\/p>\n

Balance<\/h2>\n

Mixing and matching is an eye-catching way to bring a room to life, but it can also be distracting and appear disorganized. To avoid the latter, keep it simple, and pay attention to size and variety.\u00a0Consider the size of the room you’re decorating, and more specifically, the size of the elements you plan to florally adorn. Large rooms can handle a big bold print, while the same print in a smaller room might be too much. Similarly, large-scale design elements, like upholstery, wallpaper and window treatments are ideal for big prints. Smaller patterns can make an item appear overly busy.\u00a0Utilizing more intricate prints is perfectly suited for small-scale items, which add decorative appeal without sensory overload.<\/p>\n

Elements<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Choose the areas or specific pieces where you’d like to incorporate florals. Ideally, one large design element, like an area rug, and two to three decorative accessories, like ceramic lamps, throw pillows, picture frames and china. This ratio of element application will create areas of interest.\u00a0Once you’ve selected your floral flair, there are several ways in which to integrate their usage. Adding solid dark wood pieces, in the form of tables, chairs and bookshelves will effectively offset patterned elements. Using crisp white will also produce a similar sense of balance. For instance, if you’ve chosen to incorporate floral fabric into throw pillows, do so against the backdrop of white upholstery.
