Kid’s spaces not only need to be stylish but fun and functional to boot. Hickory Furniture Mart’s furniture showrooms and galleries offer kid-sized furnishings that have added versatility as kids grow up fairly fast in their early years. As a result, their needs quickly change as well. However, your budget might not welcome an annual makeover.
Instead, you can create a room that grows along with your child. You can add/take out new pieces and “touch up” a room, we estimate every two to three years. In addition, lots of furniture nowadays has a life beyond the crib if you plan accordingly. Well, maybe not his or her bed, but other pieces as we will see. Just use common sense and fiscal sense to get the most out of your budget.
Changing tables can also now be converted into useful chests while armoires can accommodate your children into their teens with the storage options they provide. Where once diapers and infant clothes were stored, video game and stereo equipment can now find a home.
Of course, changing the wall décor and paint can also spruce up a room from teddy bears to cowboys as your child grows up. Framed posters of cuddly puppies can be easily (and inexpensively) switched out as your child’s interests change as well.
You can also add and subtract smaller pieces of furniture. A toy chest can be easily switched out with a student desk. Just make sure with all the changes to keep one thing consistent until your child is old enough to choose for themselves: the style. Stick to it! Mismatched furniture can make a room cluttered, and you will get enough clutter without making it yourself.
We know thinking about your kids growing up so quickly is overwhelming. What enjoyable furniture pieces can you think of that will last your kids beyond the crib and possibly into their tweens? A wardrobe or armoire is one. What are others?
